Working Principle of a Flush Bottom Valve

1. Valve in Closed Position

The disc, plug, or ball provides a tight seal against the valve seat when the valve is closed, so that the process media remains safely within the vessel and does not leak out.

2. Opening the Valve

A handwheel or lever is used to open the valve (or pneumatic/electric actuators). The closing element leaves the seat, providing a smooth flow-out.

3. Material Discharge

Gravity and internal pressure will cause the liquid/slurry to flow out of the valve. Material drains efficiently and there is a minimum of material getting stuck in the vessel because the valve opening is level with the bottom of the vessel.

4. Closing the Valve

Once the discharge is complete, the valve is closed once again, providing a tight seal to prevent leaks and contamination.

Step-by-Step Operation

Step 1 – Product stored or processed within the reactor/tank.
Step 2 – In operation, the Flush Bottom Valve is tight too
Step 3: The valve is manually or automatically opened when it is necessary to discharge.
Step 4: All the material passes directly through the bottom outlet with little residue.

Step 5: When emptied, the valve is closed to isolate the vessel.

Around the world, flush bottom valves are known for their application, construction, and control. Bottom flush valves are used at the bottom of reactors to flush out the medium, actuated control flush bottom valves are used for automated flushing, lined flush bottom valves are anticorrosive coated, and sampling valves are used for sampling.
